Alexander’s Castle – 1 bedroom, 1.5 baths
Newly renovated and reopened in 2005, Alexander's Castle is the
second most popular place to stay at the park any time of year. The castle is
the oldest building on the park grounds and has the richest history. The castle
features spectacular views from the first and second floors and a propane fireplace.
According to the legend, Reverend John Alexander built the castle for a
prospective Scottish bride in a style reminiscent of his native country. In 1883,
he acquired 10 acres of land near Point Wilson and constructed the building known
as Alexander's Castle. Alexander intended the building to serve as a home for him
and his bride. Traveling to Scotland to get his bride, Alexander found that his
bride-to-be had married another. He returned to Port Townsend alone and used the
building as a temporary residence. During the park's Army days, the castle was used
for a number of purposes including serving as the first site of the Post Exchange
and for many years housed the tailor shop.
Blissful Vista – 2 bedroom, 1 bath
This is the most popular rental unit on the park grounds. It was originally part
of the World War II housing. The house has an unobstructed view of the Strait of Juan
de Fuca and the beach. It is secluded and quiet and the perfect setting for a romantic,
getaway weekend. Blissful Vista has a fireplace and has been renovated with new
furnishings and fixtures.
Madrona Vista (retreat barracks) – 11 bedrooms, 4 baths
These barracks are perfect for small retreats and reunions. There is a large
kitchen upstairs with two stoves and refrigerators. The large upstairs dining room
has a spectacular water view. Furnishings are informal and rustic.
The rates below include full-linen service for bedrooms and bathrooms. Since 1999,
Fort Worden has practiced "Green Housekeeping," encouraging our guests to help conserve
water and related power associated with laundering by reusing towels instead of having
them replaced daily.
Barbeque grills may be reserved in advance; ask customer service staff for details.
Bliss Vista has a fireplace that uses compressed fuel logs that can be purchased at the
park office. Alexander's Castle has a propane fireplace. All kitchens include a variety
of kitchen items. Review the complete
list
to decide if you need to bring other items to make your stay more comfortable.
