Day-use area at Ike Kinswa State Park closed for repairs

The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission announces the closure of a section of the day-use area at Ike Kinswa State Park, due to emergency repair work to the bulkhead.
The day-use area section closed is located at the mouth of the Tilton River. The project includes short-term repair work to the crib on the bulkhead, which was damaged during winter storms that caused undercurrents to undermine the bulkhead. Currently, the log cribbing is exposed and poses a safety hazard to park visitors. Long-term repair work to the bulkhead will be done later in the year. The short-term repair work is expected to be completed by the end of May, in time for the Memorial Day weekend.
The swim beach, park trails, restrooms, play area and most of the small areas adjacent to the Tilton River will remain open during the repair work. However, the popular hydroplane races scheduled for April 30 and May 1 have been canceled this year.
Ike Kinswa State Park sits along Mayfield Lake and the Tilton and Cowlitz rivers in Southwest Washington. This 454-acre camping park features 46,000 feet of freshwater shoreline on the north side of Mayfield Lake. The campsites are forested and available year round. The park is very popular in the summer for water recreationists. The lake and rivers provide excellent opportunities for fishing, boating, swimming, sailboarding and water-skiing.
The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission thanks the public for supporting state parks. Donations made to State Parks through the vehicle license tab renewal program will keep state parks open in the 2009-2011 budget cycle, provided adequate revenues are collected. The Commission manages a diverse system of more than 100 state parks and recreation programs, including long-distance trails, boating safety and winter recreation. The 98-year-old park system will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2013.
