Youth invited to snowmobile safety class

The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission invites children to a snowmobile safety class offered at the 21st Annual WSSA Snowmobile Expo and Swap Meet in Puyallup.
The free safety class is from 9: 30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Puyallup Fairgrounds, 110 9th Ave S.W. in Puyallup. The class is open to children ages 12 to 16. Parents must sign a consent form for each child registered. Entrance is through the Blue Gate at the Puyallup Fairgrounds. Lunch is not provided, so children should take along something to drink and a sack lunch. A parent or guardian must sign the child out at the conclusion of the class.
This class is sponsored by the Chelan County Sheriff’s Department in cooperation with the Washington State Parks Winter Recreation Program and the Washington State Snowmobile Association (WSSA).
The key to safe snowmobiling lies in the operator’s knowledge of the vehicle and awareness of its capabilities and limitations. It also requires that snowmobilers have knowledge of the weather and trail conditions, concern for the safety of other winter sports enthusiasts and respect for wildlife and the environment.
The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission is responsible for Washington’s snowmobile safety and education programs, which are funded by snowmobile registration fees. State Parks and the WSSA place special emphasis on providing snowmobile safety courses for young people and adults.
