Public invited to first annual fishing derby at Bridgeport State Park

The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission invites the public to attend the first annual “Trippin’ with the Triploids” fishing tournament on May 12 at Bridgeport State Park in Okanogan County.
The fishing derby will run from 5:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 12 on Rufus Woods Lake, with Bridgeport State Park being one of several launch sites. The derby is presented by the Army Corp of Engineers, The Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation, Washington State Parks, Nell's Cafe and Grizzly Bait and Tackle.
The entry fee is $50 per person and includes entry into the derby, an event t-shirt and a barbecue dinner at the 3 p.m. awards presentation at the Willow Flats boat launch. Anglers can fish from a boat or the shore. For anglers ages 18 and older, derby entry tickets also provide the chance of catching a fish tagged with special prizes including cash and a 2011 Dave Graybill “Fishin’ Magician” Jetcraft aluminum boat donated by Bob Feil Boats and Motors and valued at more than $40,000. Due to this event and the limited number of campsites available at Bridgeport State Park, camping is available by reservation only on May 11 and 12. Discover Pass day visit and boat launch fees apply for this event, and boat launch area parking is limited. Overflow camping is not available during this event.
Bridgeport State Park is a 748-acre camping park with 7,500 feet of freshwater shoreline on Rufus Woods Lake. Set directly behind Chief Joseph Dam, this lake is actually a segment of the Columbia River. The park provides 18 acres of lawn and some shade in the midst of a desert terrain. “Haystacks,” unusual volcanic formations resembling their name, are the park's most striking feature.
