Fort Columbia
|
Located near the Long Beach Peninsula and a four-mile long bridge to Astoria, Ore., Fort Columbia State Park sits in a secluded area overlooking the Columbia River. The park has wooded hiking trails, historical buildings, bunkers and a museum. A short drive leads to charming towns, breezy coastal dunes and saltwater marshes on the peninsula.

Steward's House
|
Situated on the highest point at the fort, the Steward's House offers a spectacular view of the Columbia River from a broad open porch. The cozy two-story building, fully refurbished and updated, has retained its lovely original features. Adding to the old-time charm of the building are polished hardwood floors, wooden stairs leading to two bedrooms with queen-size beds and quilted covers, a living room with pressed-tin ceilings, an antique wood stove (converted to propane) and an antique claw-footed bathtub. The living room has a TV and VCR, and the country-style kitchen and dining area has modern appliances.

- Reservable up to nine months in advance.
- Two-night minimum stay required (three nights during holidays).
- There is a $7 non-refundable fee for handling each reservation.
- If a reservation is changed or cancelled, fees may change as well.
Notes:
- The Steward & Scarborough houses may be rented together.
- The interpretive center is open and park tours are available May through September.
- Smoking and pets are not allowed in vacation houses.

Scarborough House
|
Built in 1902, Scarborough House has ample space, with five rooms that comfortably accommodate up to 12 people. Sleeping accommodations include one room with two queen-size beds, one room with one queen, one room with two twin beds, and one room with one twin. In addition, the spacious living room has three full-size futons, plush couches and cable TV with VCR. The living room opens onto a large porch that faces an old-growth forest. The dining room is stately, and a modern, tiled kitchen offers a comfortable place to cook up culinary delights.
