Columbia Hills State Park Rustic Cabins

Columbia Hills State Park is a 3,338-acre camping park with 7,500 feet of freshwater shoreline on the Columbia River. Horsethief Butte dominates the skyline. It stands over the lake like an ancient castle. The lake itself is about 90 acres in size and is actually an impoundment of the Columbia River. The lake was flooded into existence by the reservoir created by The Dalles Dam. Lupine and balsam root bloom in mid-April making spectacular fields of purple and gold. Rock climbing is possible in this park.

rustic cabins

There are two rustic cabins that are 10 feet by 12 feet with wood walls, wood floors, two windows, and a 4 feet by 10 feet front stoop with an entry ramp. Each cabin has a 30” diameter 125 year old log round outside table and log stools, a wooden bench and coffee table inside, 2 single cots w/mattresses that can push together to sleep two. The cabins are set up to sleep 2 on provided sleeping accommodations with room for about 2 more to sleep on the floor. Each have a built-in DC light fixture. These are walk-in sites with wheelbarrows available to help shuttle gear. Parking is about 50 yards away. Pets are allowed in both rustic cabins with a $15 (plus tax) pet fee per night.

Check-in time is 4 p.m., check-out time is 11 a.m.

To make a reservation at this park, visit the reservation website. The rustic cabins are available May 15 through Sept. 15 each year.

Rental notice

  • Bed linens are not provided. Campers must bring their own linens and blankets.
  • Cooking is not allowed in platform tents, wall tents, teepees, lookouts or yurts. Cooking is allowed only in cabins with kitchenettes.
  • Pets are only permitted in designated pet-friendly overnight accommodations for an additional fee.
  • Smoking is not allowed inside.
  • Washington State Parks pass discounts do not apply to cabins, platform tents, teepees, vacation houses, yurts or other roofed overnight accommodations.

Reservations & cancellations

Unless otherwise noted above, reservations may be made online or by calling (888) CAMPOUT or (888) 226-7688. Reservations may be made nine months in advance of the arrival date. The rental fee and non-refundable reservation fee must be paid in full at the time a reservation is made. This holds the rental facility until 1 p.m. on the day after the first reserved night.
