[ARCHIVED] 15-016 Celebrate Earth Day with a Wildflower Walk at Mount St. Helens Visitor Center

Learn to identify native Northwest flowers April 25

OLYMPIA – April 13, 2015 – The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commissions invites the public to celebrate Earth Day with a wildflower appreciation walk at Mount St. Helens Visitor Center and Seaquest State Park.

The guided nature walk is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday April 25 at Mount St. Helens Visitor Center, 3029 Spirit Lake Hwy, Castle Rock. The official Earth Day is Wednesday, April 22. (Directions to the Visitor Center: https://goo.gl/maps/SlXaE)

The day’s activities will start with a short class to introduce common native wildflowers blooming in the area. Naturalists will then help visitors spot and identify wildflowers blooming along the 3/4-mile wetland trail at the visitor center, followed by a hike on some of the trails across the highway at Seaquest State Park. Naturalists will also point out other items of interest, including other types of plants and the birds encountered along the trail.

Organizers recommend that participants bring lunch as there are no food vendors on site, dress appropriately for weather conditions and bring a camera, if desired.

The cost for attending is $5 for adults and $2.50 for children age 7 to 17. A Discover Pass is not required to park at the Visitor Center parking lot.

For more information about the Wildflower Walk, contact Tina Linch, State Parks Interpretive Specialist, at (360) 274-0962 or tina.linch@parks.wa.gov.
