OLYMPIA – June 30, 2015 – The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission invites the public to an event celebrating the grand opening of the Rocky Reach Trail near Wenatchee.
The celebration is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, July 9, at the soccer field near the Rocky Reach Trailhead at Lincoln Rock State Park, 13253 State Route 2 E., East Wenatchee. (Directions: https://goo.gl/maps/KMLMW)
The event will include a speaker ceremony featuring state and local officials and members of the Complete the LOOP Coalition. Participants are encouraged to take along walking shoes or bicycles and helmets to explore the trail after the grand opening ceremony. Refreshments will be provided by Cascade Subaru of Wenatchee and the Complete the LOOP Coalition.
LINK Transit also is partnering with State Parks to provide a bus for tours of the trail for those with disabilities or who are mobility-impaired.
The Rocky Reach Trail is a 5-mile non-motorized recreation trail that connects the Apple Capital Loop Trail in East Wenatchee to Lincoln Rock State Park. The trail will provide pedestrian and bicycle transportation as an alternative to busy highways and also will benefit area tourism by expanding recreational opportunities along the Columbia River. The multi-phase project took place over a period of 20 years and cost $3.75 million in capital bond funds, with grant support from Chelan County Public Utility District and donations from the Complete the LOOP Coalition.
