Positions represent non-motorized and snowmobile winter recreation
OLYMPIA – Aug. 13, 2018– The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission is looking for winter sports enthusiasts to serve on one of two winter recreation committees—for non-motorized and for motorized winter recreation. Applications for both committees must be received by Aug. 30.
The Washington State Snowmobile Advisory Committee is made up of six snowmobiler representatives and three representatives from non-motorized winter sports. This committee has three positions that will soon become vacant:
- One position for a snowmobiler who lives in either Clallam, Jefferson, Whatcom, Skagit, Snohomish, King, Island or San Juan counties (Area 1).
- One position for a snowmobiler who lives in either Adams, Whitman, Franklin, Walla Walla, Garfield, Columbia or Asotin counties (Area 6).
- One position for an at-large candidate to represent non-motorized winter sports such cross country skiing, snowshoeing, dog mushing and /or skijoring.
The Washington State Winter Recreation Advisory Committee comprises six non-motorized representatives and three representatives from snowmobile winter sports. This committee.has two positions for non-motorized representatives that will soon become vacant:
- One position for a representative who lives in either Clallam, Jefferson, Whatcom, Skagit, Snohomish, King, Island or San Juan counties (Area 1).
- One position for a representative who lives in either Pend Oreille, Ferry, Stevens, Lincoln or Spokane counties (Area 3).
Both committees are responsible for reviewing vital issues and advising the State Parks Commission and staff on program policy and funding priorities for snow removal, trail grooming, sanitation, education and enforcement. The committees meet at least two weekends each year, once during the winter and once during the summer. Members are appointed by the Commission and may serve up to two three-year terms. Travel, lodging and meal costs for the meetings are reimbursed.
Each committee includes one representative from the Washington State Department of Natural Resources, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and Washington Association of Counties. Also included is an ex-officio member from the Washington Department of Licensing.
Nominations or applications for either committee must be received by Aug. 30. New appointments begin Oct. 1, for a term of three years.
