Public invited to open house to share ideas
OLYMPIA – Oct. 9, 2019 – Washington State Parks and Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) invite the public to an open house to share ideas on ways to improve state parks and non-vehicular — or “active” transportation — in north central Washington.
The gathering is scheduled for 3 – 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, at the Brewster Boys and Girls Club, 601 West Cliff Ave., Brewster. (Driving directions.) The open house provides a venue for area residents to share ideas and talk with friends and neighbors. Complimentary hot dogs, chips and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided, as well as a chance at winning “State Parks Dollars” — gift certificates that can be used for stays at campsites, cabins and vacation houses and for merchandise at participating state parks stores.
By holding the meeting at the Boys and Girls Club and at the same time as an afternoon school program, the two agencies hope to attract more community members and encourage more dialogue. The two agencies chose the venue for its welcoming environment. Bilingual staff from the club also will be available.
Improving recreation at Alta Lake and Bridgeport state parks
State Parks is engaged in long-term planning to improve recreation opportunities at Alta Lake and Bridgeport state parks. The agency began its Classification and Management Plan (CAMP) process for the two parks in May with public meetings in Bridgeport and Pateros. Input from those meetings provided park planners some direction for future growth. State Parks staff would like to hear more from the public about day use, camping and overnight accommodations, parking, natural resources, visitor services, trails and other topics.

WSDOT Active Transportation Plan 2019
WSDOT wants to hear from area residents about walking and bicycling options to get them where they want to go. At the open house, WSDOT staff will be asking attendees to help shape the agency’s statewide plan and future projects. What enables or prevents people from walking or biking in their communities? Where and how should improvements be made?
