Each backpack includes educational materials and a set of kid-friendly tools to help young explorers learn about nature. Inside, you’ll find binoculars, observation tools, colored pencils, a field journal, books, activities and more.

    Visit us at the Bay View Registration Station to request a Nature Backpack. You can borrow a backpack for either 48 hours or one week.

  1. Hood Canal Summerfest and Car Show

    Enjoy a day of fun, food, music and cool cars at the Hood Canal Summerfest and Car Show! After two years off, the North Mason Rotary Club has announced they are bringing back their much-loved event (formerly Taste of Hood Canal) and revamping it to be bigger and better! Enjoy live music and entertainment, food trucks, art show, vendors and a beer and wine garden — as well as a waterfront classic car show! Do you have a car you'd like to show off? If so, the Hood Canal Summerfest is the perfect place to do so. All cars are welcome and there will be 9 categories, including the fan favorite "Peoples Choice Award"! Cost is $35 for judged cars and $25 for non-judged cars.     The Eclectic Cloggers is a dance group that performs a high energy style of traditional Appalachian step dancing to live old time music. This percussive dance form comes from the eastern mountain region of the United States, where it began as a mix of Irish, Scottish and English step dances with African and Native American influences. Since 1982, the Eclectic Cloggers have performed at festivals and community events throughout the Northwest.

Join Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife from 7-9 p.m. at Millersylvania State Park on Saturday, Aug. 13 to learn more about nocturnal animals at Millersylvania and in Western Washington. We’ll learn about why mammals’ eyes glow at night and other fun adaptations that help animals navigate through the darkness.
