Water Closure

Anderson Lake is known for algae blooms that can close fishing and water recreation on the lake. Exposure to the toxins in the water can cause serious illness or death to people and pets.

Notification
The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission voted to keep the cabins at the park permanently closed where they currently sit. This was a difficult decision following an involved public process. Long-term planning, underway now through 2026, will evaluate the future of the park and other options for overnight accommodation. Day use in the park remains open, as does the Cama Center and café. Restrooms are not available in the lower beach area but are available in other parts of the park.

Cape Disappointment camping is closed entirely until late spring 2026 while the park undergoes major renovations.
The Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center, North Head Lighthouse area, Beard's Hollow, Waikiki Beach and the North Jetty will remain open during this closure. Please feel free to contact the park if you have questions.

Pass Lake is closed to all recreational access effective August 13, 2025, due to elevated Microcystins and Anatoxin-A. The lake will remain closed until levels are below recreational guidelines.

West Beach parking lot is at a reduced capacity. Boat trailers, RV's and towed campers over 25 feet, are not permitted in the West Beach parking lot.
Boating and Moorage
The boat ramp at Bowan Bay is no longer available for launching any boat that requires a trailer to launch. Kayakers can still hand launch any kayak. Additionally, there is no longer any boat trailer parking available at Bowman Bay and parallel parking will not be allowed.

Construction
There is construction at the entrance of the park. This work starts at the end of May and will last through November. The work includes construction of a new Welcome Center, bathrooms, park office, and improved roadways. Expect construction noise and occasional stopping of traffic at the park entrance.

A Discover Pass is required for day-use parking in all areas of Fort Worden Historical State Park, to include the upper campus. On June 23, 2025, Start Parks lowered the water level of Lake Sylvia by approximately five feet to relieve pressure on the aging Lake Sylvia dam. The lake remains open for recreation.

Effective immediately, the boat launch is closed to trailered watercraft. Hand-carried watercraft (such as kayaks, canoes, and paddle boards) may still be launched at this site. Please note: Kayak and paddle board rentals are no longer available through the park store.

July 15 through September 30, 2026, there will be a complete closure of Loop 4 (sites 131 through 178) due to culvert replacement construction.

During the summer season of 2026, we will be undergoing extensive culvert replacements throughout the park from July 15 through September 30. Expect heavy equipment noise and traffic impacts, including single lane alternating traffic.

The Ralston Trailhead on the Palouse to Cascades Trail (East) will be temporarily closed for final paving of the trailhead entrance. The trail will remain open for use, however access to the trailhead will not be permissible. It is expected to be closed from 10/20-10/31.

During the Vantage Bridge construction project, WSDOT is redirecting bicycles from I-90, both directions, to take the Beverly Bridge detour. The detour signs on the Palouse to Cascades Trail are only for the I-90 detour. The trail is open through the Yakima Training Center.

The Lake Spokane Campground will be closing for the season starting Tuesday October 21. The seasonal closure is starting early to allow the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to conduct a controlled burn in the area.

The new Knothead Valley Trailhead is open for use. Current hours are from 6:30 a.m. until dusk. Beginning on November 1, park hours change and will and will be from 8 a.m. until dusk throughout the winter months.

Due to a potential blue-green algae bloom in the water by the boat launch, no people or pets are allowed in the water. Boats and other watercraft are okay.

There are multiple trail improvement projects occurring in Pacific County this fall that require portions of the trail to be closed.
-The trail will be closed from Salmon Creek (MP28) to Lebam (MP 38) September 15th through December 31st for resurfacing work.
-The trail will be closed at approximately MP 47 just west of Menlo September 8th-Dec 31st for the construction of a new trailhead.
-There will be rolling closures along the trail between Menlo (MP 46) and Lebam (MP 38.5) from September 15th-December 31st for resurfacing work.

There is ongoing construction along the Levy Trail. This is a long-term ecosystem restoration project conducted by the federal government and is scheduled until late 2027. The work includes large equipment driving up and down the Levy Trail. Expect extra noise near areas along the Levy Trail and campsites 17 - 36.
